Current Read: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Personally, I like to rate the books I read by how much I'm intrigued by the story. I always wonder something about the books I read that make me want to continue them to the end. However, sometimes I am not intrigued enough by the story to want to finish it (I'm getting better at accepting this).
For starters, Colleen Hoover, the world's most famous author at the moment (especially if you're on TikTok), has a style of writing that intrigued me to finish her book, It Ends With Us, in a matter of days. I was dying to know how the title would work its way into the story. To be honest, I didn't think it was that interesting at the beginning (don't tell TikTok). I thought it was going to be the normal story of two people falling in love with a twist. However, as I kept reading to find out what the world loved so much about this book, I started to wonder when the title would become applicable. In the end, I fell in love with the way the title was incorporated because it was not what the reader would think throughout the story.
A newer favorite book of mine is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. For this story, I was more intrigued to find out the deeper story this book had because the title was quite basic, and was not the important factor of the story at all, which completely shocked me. I don't want to spoil it but if you haven't read it, and like romance realistic fiction, you need to read this book, please believe me.
I am definitely a person who thinks there is always something to enjoy about a book, and I should be able to finish each book I start. I always read books within the genre that I like so I should be able to finish each one. This was not the case for The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab. This book was recommended to me by one of my High School English teachers who recommended some of my favorite books, so I thought I would love this one too. I'm still not quite sure what it was about this book that didn't intrigue me enough to finish it (and I gave it 100 pages), but I didn't have the motivation to go along with a story that I wasn't getting into, which is totally okay!!
Finally, I want to end this post with my favorite book of all time, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This book was fantastic. I loved the way Delia Owens had two stories going on at the same time because it kept me intrigued to see how the two stories would connect. And once they did, I loved the story even more. It was beautifully written all around. I loved this book so much I made my mom read it, and she loved it too. Where the Crawdads Sing is always the first book I recommend to others, and I don't think that will ever change, so you should read it too!
